Jail To Jesus

My name is Bill Alexander. I am not an excellent writer but I thought I should share a short testimony with my brothers and sisters. I grew up living a pretty sheltered life, so I decided to rebel when I was in my teen years. As soon as I started high school, I started using drugs. It started with marijuana, but turned into every drug or alcohol that I could get my hands on. At the age of 17 I was arrested for trying to rape a woman (I also had a very bad problem with pornography). After my teen years were over my crime life continued. I was arrested a multitude of times for everything from burglary to selling drugs. I have spent years in Texas, New Mexico and Colorado jails and prisons. The entire time I was in jail I tried to find out who God was (thanks to my loving Grandparents who always told me about and tried to introduce me to Jesus) , but nothing made sense to me about God or Jesus. After I finished my jail time, I kept drinking and using drugs. I would be at my home very drunk or stoned, but I kept trying to find God. I felt like I needed a wife to keep me strong, but all the women I knew were into the bad things that I was. I would pray to God in my drunken stupor that he would send me the right woman. One night, as I was using cocaine, someone knocked on my door. It was the perfect woman for me. I didn’t know her but she was my neighbor, and she asked me over for dinner. Well that’s when God started revealing himself to me in very powerful ways. To make this short, I just want to say that I believe that God has always had his hand over my life (or I would be dead for sure), and that if it wasn’t for my Grandparents’s teaching and planting in my life then I would not be saved. I still have a daily battle with pornography, but God is showing me how to battle it. I just want to praise God and give him all the glory for the changes that have taken place in my life. I also am going to start going into the jail ministry in my town in the next couple of months.
