Knowledge vs Experience
by Jim Crittenden
Several years ago, I had made it a personal goal to learn at least
one thing new every day. I wanted to keep my brain learning, so
sometimes I may “learn” something that I will never use. This may
sound useless, however, knowledge is a valuable thing.
What is the status of your knowledge of Christ? Are you
continuing to learn about Jesus and using this knowledge? I am a
big supporter of learning all we can. Yet, I’m convinced that we
‘know’ more than we use.
A story in the bible tells us that two of Jesus’ disciples
were with John the Baptist as he pointed to Jesus and said,
“Behold, the Lamb of God!” The two disciples then started walking
behind Jesus. Jesus turned and asked, “What do you seek?” They
responded, “Where are You staying?” Jesus could have given them
the address, or the description of the house and they would have
had the “knowledge” they sought. Jesus wanted them to have an
experience. He said, “Come and see.” (John 1:36-39)
You see, by experiencing Jesus, they not only
gained the knowledge, but also a life changing experience. Jesus
is calling all of us to “Come and see.” That’s what He is saying
to all our churches. Don’t just know ABOUT Jesus, know Him by
experiencing all He has for us. By following Him, which is
another term for obeying Him, we gain much more than just
knowledge. We know Him.
Now, for Heaven’s sake, please keep reading His word and
learning the truths that will set you free! When you have a
chance to walk with Him, to follow wherever He is going, take it?
Then everything you’ve read and learned will come alive.
May God Bless.
